Indians win two at Madison County Duals

The Berkeley Springs High School Varsity Wrestling Team ventured deep into Virginia on Saturday, January 25 to participate in the Mountaineer Duals held at Madison County High School. The Indians went into the dual tournament missing four wrestlers so with a nine man roster the Indians knew they had to win almost every weight class to win a dual match.

In their first pool match up, the Indians faced John Champe. The Knights took advantage of the five forfeits and cruised to a 60-6 win. The Indians were able to secure wins by Michael Percy (145) with a 10-8 decision and CJ Capps (152) who took an 8-2 decision.

In their second match, the Indians faced off with the George Marshall High B team. The Indians were able to take a 42-28 victory. Picking up wins for the Indians were Billy Wilson (126) who got a pin, Matt Marshall (138) who picked up a 7-5 decision, Michael Percy (145) who scored a pinfall, CJ Capps (152) who scored a pinfall, Garrett Morris (160) picked up a 3-0 decision, Sam Brake (170) with a pin and Robert Carter (182) who also picked up a pin.

In the third match, the Indians took an exciting 36-33 victory over Spotsylvania. Picking up pins for the Indians were Wilson, Percy and Brake. Robert Carter picked up the winning bout at 182 with an exciting pin in the third period.

The fourth match saw the Indians fall to Western Albamarle out of Charlottesville, Va. Western was able to secure a 45-24 victory over the Tribe. Picking up pins for the Indians were Wilson and Capps.

In the final match of the evening the Indians took on Fork Union Military Academy. FUMA used a pin at the 195 lb. weight class to take a 36-34 win. Picking up pins for the Indians were Wilson, Percy, Brake and Carter. CJ Capps also picked up a major decision with a 13-1 victory.

Next up for the Indians is the Viking Smash at Petersburg this Friday, January 31 and Saturday, February 1.
