Cacapon State Park events

This is West Virginia’s 150th birthday, and an appropriate time to reflect on the past and look forward to the future. Join us at Cacapon State Par for events and recreational, cultural and outdoor opportunities for participants of all ages.

Thursday, June 20

10:30 a.m.-Cacapon History Walk: Then Civilian Conservation Corps, Camp Morgan helped to construct many of the structures at Cacapon. Meet at the Nature Center to learn more about the CCC and their impact on this area. (45 minutes)

1 p.m.-WV Ornament: Meet the at the Nature Center to decorate own handmade WV ornament to remember the 150th celebration.

2:30 p.m.-150th Birthday Cake! Cake cutting begins at 2:30 sharp in the Morgan Room.

4:30, 5 & 5:30 pm-Cacapon Hayrides: Meet at the Nature Center for a hay-ride through the park. Hayrides will depart at the times listed.

8 p.m.-Cacapon Campfire: Take marshmallows. Pay tribute to WV by reciting the “West Virginia Hills!”

Friday, June 21

10 a.m.-Meet at the Nature Center to explore the historic landscape of the Ridge Trail, including its fortune to the WV glass industry.

1 p.m.-WV Wildlife Visit hands-on, fun-for-all-ages "Discovery Table,"… Meet at the Nature Center.

2 p.m.-The CCC: A WV Legacy: Meet at the Nature Center to watch a film based on the CCC legacy.

7:30 p.m.-WV Jeopardy: Participants and audience members needed for Cacapon’s version of the game show Jeopardy. Meet at the Lodge, Washington Room.

Saturday, June 22

2 p.m.-WV History: Meet in the Morgan Room. Slide show presentation will be given by WVU History Major, Nathan Keefer.

4-6 p.m.-Relive History: It’s been 150 years since the start of the Civil War…Reenactors will be set up in front of the lodge. Stop by and share the history which had an extreme impact on who we are as a nation.

7 p.m.-Concert in the Park: Music by the Stevens Family on the back porch of the Lodge.

9 p.m.-Fireworks! There’s no better way to celebrate WV’s 150th Birthday! Take lawn chairs or blankets to the hillside behind the Lodge.
