Sesquicentennial celebration at Cacapon State Park

Thursday, June 13

9 a.m. Treemendous trees: Have you ever wondered how to tell a Red Oak from a White Oak? Walk around the Cabin Loop Trail. Meet at the lodge.

10 a.m. Wildlife tracks and signs: Meet at the Nature Center to participate and make own track casting.

1 p.m. Turtle hurdles: Join at the Nature Center and meet some turtles and learn fun facts about turtles and some of the challenges they face.

2:30 p.m. Pileated Woodpecker craft: Meet at the Nature Center to make a pileated woodpecker.

3 p.m. Irish Road Bowling: Take the whole family to play with a cannonball in the road. Meet at the Nature Center for this free and addicting game.

Friday, June 14

10 a.m. Meet the Naturalist at the Nature Center to explore the natural and historic landscape of the Ridge Trail. This trail is approximately two miles with a few hills.

1 p.m. Join the Naturalist in the Nature Center to watch this 30 minute film about survival.

2:30 p.m. Cacapon Creek Critters: Meet in the picnic area near the playground equipment for a study of the creepy, crawly critters that may be found in the stream. No equipment is necessary, but wear shoes that can get wet. Fun for children of all ages.

Saturday, June 15

10:30 a.m. CCC Camp Morgan helped to construct many of the structures at Cacapon. Meet the Naturalist at the Nature Center. This will be an easy one mile walk through the park.

1 p.m. Furs, Fins and Scales: Nature Center’s new displays can be viewed and the Naturalist will be on hand to answer questions.

2:30 p.m. Amazing Amphibians: Join the Naturalist in the Nature Center to learn about these amazing critters. View an eyewitness video on all different species of amphibians.

4:30 p.m. Games are popular yard games. Take the family and meet at the Nature Center to play Hillbilly golf and cornhole.

Sunday, June 16

1:30 p.m. Ravishing Reptiles: Meet at the Nature Center for a 30 minute eyewitness video followed by an animal meet and greet. Get an upclose and hands-on experience with some of Cacapon’s critters.

2:30 p.m. Sunday Scavenger Hunt: Meet at the Nature Center to search for items on the special scavenger hunt list. All you need are quick hands and a keen eye. Scavenger hunts are available for different ages.
