McCarthy named Cacapon golf pro

Ken McCarthy brings years of experience to his role as the new golf pro at Cacapon.Ken McCarthy brings years of experience to his role as the new golf pro at Cacapon.Ken McCarthy, a 54-year-old resident of Ashburn, Va. has been hired to fill the vacant head golf professional position at Cacapon Resort State Park. McCarthy fills the spot that former pro Charlie Fields held for 39 years. Fields retired last October.  McCarthy has been a PGA professional for 23 years. During that time he has managed all facets of golf operations, including merchandising, inventory management, tournament operations, clinics, sales and customer service.

During McCarthy’s professional golf career, he has worked at various public courses and exclusive, private golf clubs on the east coast including Manchester Country Club in New Hampshire, Belmont Country Club in Virginia, Cullasaja Golf Club in North Carolina and Woodfield Country Club in Florida.  

McCarthy’s primary focus lately has been on the teaching side of the game and is the president and founder of Patrick’s Golf Academy, or PGA2. He has also played golf at a high level winning several Pro-Ams, and some Mid Atlantic and Tri State Chapter events. He also competed on the Sunshine Mini Tour in Florida.

As a former Marine, McCarthy takes great pride and pleasure working with the Wounded Warrior Golf program and has implemented the program at two golf clubs.

McCarthy has West Virginia roots as his family is from Logan and has always wanted to come back to West Virginia. When he saw the opening at Cacapon, a course he’s been playing on a semi regular basis for 20 years, he immediately applied and is very happy to be back in West Virginia.
