West Virginia native and America’s Got Talent winner Landau Eugene Murphy Jr. will bring the unique singing style that won him the AGT title to a December 11 concert at the Star Theatre in Berkeley Springs. The Classic Christmas Crooners Tour starts at 8 and also includes former lead vocalists from The Platters, The Temptations and The drifters.

As his legion of fans know, Murphy is an amazing success story, coming from dire poverty (wearing, literally, his only decent set of clothes in the talent competition) to receiving a standing ovation from judges Sharon Osbourne, Piers Morgan and Howie Mandel after his sizzling duet with the iconic Patti LaBelle and his rousing rendition of “My Way.” With that performance, Landau Eugene Murphy Jr. was named the winner of AGT’s sixth season on Sept. 14, 2011.

Murphy has never forgotten his Logan, W.Va., roots, his own bout with homelessness, and his rise from rags (literally, working-in-a-car-wash rags!) to riches. This performer gives back in a big way.

Murphy will sign copies of his new album Christmas Made for Two as well as his new book From Washing Cars to Hollywood Star after his concert at the Star Theatre.Murphy will sign copies of his new album Christmas Made for Two as well as his new book From Washing Cars to Hollywood Star after his concert at the Star Theatre.

Along with his Berkeley Springs concert at the Star Theatre December 11th, Murphywill be giving back in a “Meet & Greet,” held from 6 to 7 pm at TreeFest, located in the Morgan Arts Council’s Ice House  to benefit Morgan County Backpacks. The event is open only to concert ticket holders, and admission will be donations of foods from the Morgan County Backpacks’ “Desired Food Donation List.” That includes plastic jars of peanut butter, canned pasta meals such as Chef Boyardee, and canned soups. Monetary gifts will also be accepted.

TreeFest, a part of A Dickens of a Christmas in Berkeley Springs, presents a perfect photo op for participants. A magical indoor forest of unique and beautiful trees, each decorated by a local business or organizations, TreeFest is open the night of the 13th exclusively for Murphy’s fans, and makes a beautiful backdrop for the event.

Morgan County Backpacks aims to “bag child hunger” by providing bags of food each week that are sent home with children who have little or no food to eat over the weekend. The program currently serves 320 children in grades K through 12, or about 12.5% of the school population. All foods collected go to Morgan County kids.
