J. Ersel Pugh

1932-2019

James Ersel Pugh, 87, of Berkeley Springs, died on Friday, June 21, 2019 at the Berkeley Springs Center.

Born on June 18, 1932 in Hampshire County, he was the son of the late Charles L. and Gold D. Hovermale Pugh.

He was a veteran in the U.S. Army and a member of the Independent Church of God.

He worked at Plumbley Lumber Co. in Winchester, Va., and as a mechanic at T.H. Compton in Berkeley Springs.

He liked hunting, fishing, carpenter work, attending church and the fire company picnics.

He was married to Bessie Omps Bauer, who died January 31, 2017.

He is survived by his son, James (Buddy) Pugh, Keyser; two daughters, Susie Yost, Cross Junction, Va., and Barbara Thompson, Capon Bridge and 11 grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Lucy Snapp.

Funeral services were conducted Monday, June 24 at Giffin Funeral Home & Crematory, Capon Bridge. Ministers Larry Veach and Kraig Bishop officiated. Interment was at Wesley Chapel Cemetery, Cross Junction.
