Betty Jane Burton
1935-2026
Betty Jane Burton, age 90, of Berkeley Springs, W.Va., passed away on Thursday, September 17, 2026 at Winchester Medical Center.
Born October 6, 1935 in Berkeley Springs, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Berkeley Carter and Martha Ellen Barney VanGosen.
She was a member of Calvary Bible Church in Berkeley Springs, W.Va.
Betty attended Berkeley Springs High School.
She worked as a clerk with Bowman’s Department Store and R & M Department Store for 43 1/2 years.
Betty was an avid reader and liked doing crossword puzzles and crafts. She loved putting Thomas Kinkade puzzles together.
Betty is survived by a stepdaughter, Sharon Burton, one sister, Nancy Havermale of Berkeley Springs, W.Va. and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Caudy Jackson “Jack” Burton, four sisters, Ethel Bent, Willadean Courtney, Phyllis Wills and Fairy Emma Jean VanGosen Oyerly and six brothers, Clyde VanGosen, Eldridge VanGosen, Richard VanGosen, Robert VanGosen, Larry VanGosen and Ronald VanGosen.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Thursday, September 24, 2026 at Calvary Bible Church, 2065 Valley Road, Berkeley Springs, W.Va., with Pastor BJ Worley officiating. Burial will be in Greenway Cemetery.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, September 23, 2026 from 5-7 p.m. at Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 95 Union Street, Berkeley Springs, WV and from Noon-1 p.m. on Thursday at the church prior to services.
