Gary Lee Mason
1949-2026
Gary Lee Mason, 76, of Hedgesville, W.Va., went to his heavenly home on Wednesday, September 9, 2026, at the Hospice of the Panhandle Inpatient Facility.
Born October 12, 1949, in Berkeley Springs, W.Va., Gary was the son of the late Clarence “Bud” Mason and Ethelyn Lopp Mason.
He graduated from Berkeley Springs High School in 1967, Hagerstown Business College in 1969, Shepherd College in 1976 and Shenandoah University in 1993.
Gary served in the United States Army from 1969 to 1971 as a communications specialist stationed in Japan. Following his military service, he worked at Biedler’s Electric and Grove Manufacturing Company, now Manitowoc, from 1976 to 1998. He then worked as a self-employed carpenter from 1998 to 2015.
Gary enjoyed rabbit hunting with friends from Grove Manufacturing. He had many beagles over the years, with the last being his faithful companion, Misty. He also loved his horse, Pat, whom he rode and cared for more than 20 years.
Gary was a devoted member of Pikeside Church and a Certified Lay Servant. He shared the love of Christ through his handmade cross ministry, his service at Camp Joy each year in Morgan County, and his willingness to help seniors complete needed work around their homes. His faith was expressed through the work of his hands, his generosity and his care for others.
Gary is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Vicki Lee Stotler Mason; his brothers Sterling, Kenny and John of Berkeley Springs, and David of Bridgeton, N.J.; and his sisters Carol Sue Fox and Kathy Burkhart of Berkeley Springs, W.Va., and many extended family members.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Norman “Tator” and Lewis, and his sisters, Nancy Mason and Mary Ann Rankin.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, September 27, 2026, from 5-7 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home in Martinsburg. Funeral services will be held on Monday, September 28, 2026, at 11 a.m. at Pikeside Church, 25 Paynes Ford Road, Martinsburg, W.Va., with Pastor Bill Ball officiating. Interment will follow at Friendship Cemetery in Berkeley Springs, W.Va.
