Clifton C. “Butch” Bennett, Sr.

1944-2026

Clifton C. “Butch” Bennett, Sr., 82, of Berkeley Springs, W.Va., passed away on May 25, 2026, quietly at home under Hospice care.

Butch was born on January 8, 1944, In Enterprise, W.Va. to Clyde and Mona Bennett.

He worked in construction and could run any piece of equipment but mainly cranes and was a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers — Local 77.

He enjoyed playing pool, watching dirt track racing, being with family and finding a bargain at thrift shops, flea markets and yard sales.

He is survived by his wife of 40 years Bonnie Sue Laye Bennett; son Clifton C. “Chuck” Bennett, Jr. (Sandra); daughters Christi Willingham (John) and Melissa Laing (Nathan); sister Terri Lock (Joe) and grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his father, Clyde Bennett; mother, Mona Bennett and sister, Carol Miller.

A funeral service was held at the Giffin Funeral Home in Capon Bridge, W.Va., on Friday, May 29, 2026, at 2 p.m., with Pastor Alanna McGuinn officiating.

Interment was at Fairview Cemetery near Gore, Va.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a charity of choice.

He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
