The Berkeley Springs Lady Indians softball team is still searching for its first victory of the 2026 season after dropping three more contests last week, sliding to 0–13 overall following two road losses and a home defeat.
The week began on Monday, April 13, with a trip to Baker to face the East Hardy Cougars. Defensive struggles proved costly as Berkeley Springs committed eight fielding errors, allowing the Cougars to build an early lead and cruise to a 10–0 win in five innings via the mercy rule. The Lady Indians were unable to generate offense, failing to record a base hit against East Hardy pitching.
On Tuesday, April 14, Berkeley Springs traveled across state lines to Frostburg, Md., to take on the Mountain Ridge Miners, and the offensive woes continued. Once again, the Lady Indians were held scoreless. Maddie Close and Kaya Delauter each singled to account for Berkeley Springs’ lone hits, but four defensive errors and timely hitting by Mountain Ridge led to another shutout loss.
The Lady Indians returned home on Wednesday, April 15, hoping to turn things around against the Hedgesville Eagles, but the Eagles jumped ahead early and never looked back in an 11–1 victory.
Despite the lopsided score, Berkeley Springs did find a bright spot late in the game. Junior Bailee Diehl delivered a solo home run in the bottom of the fifth inning, accounting for the team’s only run and providing a moment of excitement for the home crowd.

While the losses continue to pile up, the Lady Indians have shown flashes of resilience as they navigate a challenging season marked by youthful inexperience and defensive growing pains. Errors in the field and an inability to string hits together have been recurring themes, but the coaching staff remains focused on development and improvement as the season progresses.
Berkeley Springs will look ahead to a busy stretch of games in hopes of finding momentum and breaking into the win column.
Up next for Berkeley Springs (0–13): April 22 at Frankfort, 7 p.m.; April 24 at Southern Fulton, 4:30 p.m. and April 25 vs. McConnellsburg, 12 p.m.
With several opportunities still ahead, the Lady Indians will aim to clean up the defense, build confidence at the plate and continue battling as they chase that elusive first win of the season.
