Mary Lea Clem

1936-2022

Mary Lea Clem, age 85, of Summit Point, W.Va., formerly of Berkeley Springs, W.Va., died on Sunday, February 6, 2022 at WVUH East in Martinsburg, W.Va.

Born March 2, 1936 in Berkeley Springs, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Walter Leslie and Elsie Emma Lea Kyne Clem.

She was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Berkeley Springs.

Mary Lea was a graduate of Berkeley Springs High School and had worked in patient registration with Morgan County War Memorial Hospital.

She was a member of Women of the Moose Chapter #1311 where she had served as Senior Regent, Star Recorder and earned her degree in the College of Regents.

She enjoyed bowling, playing cards and traveling.

Mary Lea is survived by her son, Matthew Eric Clem, of Summit Point; her daughter-in-law, Kimberly Anne Clem, of Bunker Hill, W.Va.; one sister, Evelyn Virginia Sowers, of Hancock, Md.; three grandchildren, Alexandra Morgan Clem, Andrew Landon Clem and Cameron Elise Clem, all of Summit Point; three step-grandchildren, Jason Charles Rocker, Tom Eldridge Netting and Shannon Michele Rocker, all of Maryland; three step great-grandchildren, Taylor Elizabeth Netting, Camden Steven Rocker-Patrick and Kaylee Michele Rocker-Patrick, all of Maryland; her nephew, Mark Richard Clem, of Virginia and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her longtime companion of 19 years, Eldridge Thatcher Compton; one granddaughter, Alyssa Faye Clem; three sisters, Marie Martha Albanese, Stella Louise Oden and Teresa Ilean Wilkinson; two brothers, Walter Joseph William Clem and Gilbert Sylvester Clem and two stepchildren, Elizabeth Ann Netting and Bonnie Cheryl Rocker.

A Christian Wake prayer service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Saturday, February 12, 2022 at Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 95 Union Street, Berkeley Springs, W.Va. with the Rev. Mikee Lecias officiating. Interment will be in Greenway Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home where there will be a Women of the Moose Memorial Service at 7 p.m.
