Holiday heat wave coming

Morgan County public safety officials are urging residents to be mindful of the predicted heat wave expected for the remainder of this week and into the Fourth of July holiday weekend.

The National Weather Service has predicted a high of 97 degrees on Wednesday, a high of 100 degrees on Thursday and a high of 98 degrees on Friday, with slight cooling to 95 degrees on Saturday and a high of 92 degrees on Sunday.

Public Cooling Shelters will be set up at:

— Berkeley Springs Senior Center, 106 Sand Mine Road in Berkeley Springs daily from Monday through Thursday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

— Paw Paw Senior Center, 783 Winchester Street in Paw Paw, Monday through Thursday, 8 a.m. to 12: 30 p.m.

— Morgan County Public Library during business hours.

Additional Cooling Shelters may be opened if the need arises.

Both the Berkeley Springs State Park and the Cacapon State Park offer options for staying cool.

Drinking water is always available at Berkeley Springs State Park (Bring your own containers). Remember to stay hydrated and do not leave children or pets unattended in cars. Check on your neighbors.
