A Paw Paw man lost his life in a single-vehicle accident on Saturday, April 18 near Hedgesville.
The Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office reported in a press release on Monday that Robert Byron Elliott, 37, died as a result of injuries sustained in the accident.
According to police, around 9 p.m. on Saturday, deputies were dispatched to the 900 block of Hedgesville Road for a collision with injuries. It was reported to police that a motorcyclist had hit a guardrail and was seriously injured.
Deputies and emergency medical crews responded to the scene and began giving aid to the male motorcyclist. He was transported to Berkeley Medical Center where he was pronounced deceased.
Sgt. Richie, accident reconstructionist, conducted a detailed investigation. Preliminary findings indicated that the motorcycle was being operated at speeds greater than the posted speed limit prior to the crash.
The investigation remains active and ongoing, said Chief Deputy Eric Burnett.
