West Virginia residents who meet eligibility requirements have until Tuesday, April 21 to register to vote before the General Election or to change details of their voter registry, including their party.
Now is the time to modify an address or party affiliation ahead of the May 12 nonpartisan election and party primary.
During this year’s party primary election, voters will only be permitted to receive a ballot associated with their political party affiliation. That means registered Democrats will be given a Democratic party ballot, Republicans will be given a Republican party ballot, Mountain Party voters will be given a Mountain Party ballot and Independent or non-affiliated voters will be able to choose a Non-Partisan, Democratic, Mountain Party or Constitution Party ballot. Voters who are registered as Independent will not have the option to receive a Republican ballot during the party primary this year under new rules from the West Virginia GOP.
All registered voters will be able to vote on Non-Partisan races and ballot issues, including judicial races (Magistrate, Circuit, Intermediate Court and Supreme Court), Conservation District Supervisor and the Morgan County School Excess Levy renewal.
Voter registration can be done at the Morgan County Clerk’s office in the county courthouse, first floor, during regular courthouse hours. Registration can also be done online at the West Virginia Secretary of State’s website.
Applications for absentee ballots to vote by mail can still be submitted to the Morgan County Clerk’s office or the Secretary of State’s office by May 6. Voters must meet one of the requirements in order to receive a ballot by mail, including being out of the county for military service or first responder service during the voter period, hospitalization or living outside of the county temporarily during the election season.
For more information, contact the Morgan County Clerk at 304-258-8547 or the West Virginia Secretary of State at 304-558-6000.
