Indians break through on the road, then face Spring Break gauntlet

by Jamie Harris

The Berkeley Springs Indians baseball team endured a demanding week away from home during spring break, picking up one much-needed victory before closing the trip with four straight losses. The stretch moved the Tribe’s 2026 record to 2–11, but not before delivering one of their strongest performances of the season.

Wednesday, April 8 marked a bright spot for Berkeley Springs as the Indians traveled to Hancock, Md., and delivered a commanding 12–1 victory over the Hancock Panthers.

After scoring once in the top of the first inning, the Tribe’s bats erupted, crossing the plate 11 more times and never looking back. The offensive charge was led by Kyle Moore and Jalen Miller, who both launched home runs to power Berkeley Springs.

Moore turned in a standout all-around performance, finishing with a home run, a single, two runs scored and two RBIs. Miller added a home run, single, run and RBI, providing consistent pressure in the middle of the order.

Berkeley Springs received production throughout the lineup, including Shawn McCumbee (two singles, two runs), Caiden Groves (single, run, RBI), Colten Dixon (single, run, RBI), Conner Macanoughey (single, run), Liam Coffman (run), David Dillon (run), Matthew Slifer (two RBIs) and Brendan Anderton (two runs).

On the mound, Moore was just as dominant. The right-hander flirted with history, tossing 4.1 innings of no-hit baseball, allowing just one run while striking out seven batters, anchoring the best overall team performance of the season.

Following the win, Berkeley Springs faced an exhausting four-game road stretch that tested depth and endurance.

Kyle Moore was on the mound for the Indians.

The run began on Thursday, April 11, at John Marshall. The Monarchs capitalized on a weary Tribe squad and secured a 13–2 victory. Offensively, Berkeley Springs was paced by Caiden Groves (double, run), Brendan Anderton (single), Conner Macanoughey (single) and Jalen Miller (two walks, run).

The next day, Friday, April 10, the Indians traveled to Weir and faced the Red Riders, who handed Berkeley Springs a 14–3 loss. Contributions came from Groves (single), Miller (single, two RBIs), while David Dillon, Evan Kessell and Wyatt Bartley each crossed the plate.

The road grind concluded on Saturday, April 11, with a doubleheader at Cameron against the Dragons.

In game one, Berkeley Springs struggled to generate offense as Cameron edged the Indians 2–0. The Tribe managed just three hits—singles from Macanoughey, Miller and Slifer.
