The Berkeley Springs High School Indians and Lady Indians tennis teams logged a busy and productive week on the courts, facing a tough Class AAAA opponent on the road before rebounding with strong performances at home under picture-perfect conditions.
The Tribe opened the week on Monday, March 30, traveling to take on the Musselman Applemen in a challenging non-regional matchup. Competing against the Class AAAA program, both Berkeley Springs squads showed grit despite coming up short in the team results.
The Lady Indians fell by a 6–1 score, but not without a highlight performance at the top of the ladder. Emilee Fleece secured a hard-fought victory at #1 Singles, edging her opponent 9–7 in a tightly contested match that showcased composure and resilience.
On the boys’ side, the Indians dropped a 5–2 decision, but doubles play proved to be a strength. The duo of Landon Litten and Connor Havermale delivered a convincing 8–3 win at #2 Doubles, while Brody Beal and Kyle Bland earned a clutch 9–7 victory at #3 Doubles, demonstrating strong chemistry and determination late in the match.
After the road test, Berkeley Springs returned home on Saturday, April 4, hosting new regional opponent Philip Barbour at the Warm Spring Courts. With ideal weather setting the stage, both the Indians and Lady Indians capitalized, sweeping the day with team victories.
The Lady Indians claimed a narrow 4–3 win, fueled by several standout singles performances. Chloe Jackson battled to an 8–6 win at #2 Singles, while Tanner Emerick matched that scoreline with a victory at #3 Singles. Emma Frame was dominant at #4 Singles, rolling to an 8–0 shutout. In doubles action, Kendall Risinger and Kara Litten capped off the win with an 8–0 sweep at #3 Doubles.
The Indians followed with an impressive 6–1 victory, controlling the match across both singles and doubles play. Braden Brinegar anchored the lineup with a gritty 9–7 win at #1 Singles, while Connor Havermale and Brody Beal cruised to 8–0 wins at #3 and #4 Singles, respectively. Doubles play sealed the commanding outcome, with Havermale and Litten winning 8–5 at #1 Doubles, Brinegar and Andrew Bland posting an 8–1 victory at #2 Doubles, and Beal and Kyle Bland completing the sweep with an 8–0 win at #3 Doubles.
With confidence building, the Tribe now turns its focus to the next challenge. Berkeley Springs will return to action on Monday, April 13, hosting Hedgesville at 4 p.m. in a non-regional matchup at the Warm Spring Courts.
