Berkeley Springs High School Chess team takes state title, earns way to national competition

Berkeley Springs High School’s chess team triumphed at the 55^th West Virginia State Scholastic Chess Championship in Clarksburg. Winning first place from among six teams and 31 players, the Berkeley Springs team earned their way to nationals – a first for the school’s chess program.

Team members traveled to the 2026 National High School Championship in Chicago, Illinois this past weekend, earning 27^th place in a field of 52 teams.
