Berkeley Springs High School Chess team takes state title, earns way to national competition

Berkeley Springs High School’s chess team triumphed at the 55th West Virginia State Scholastic Chess Championship in Clarksburg. Winning first place from among six teams and 31 players, the Berkeley Springs team earned their way to nationals – a first for the school’s chess program.

Team members traveled to the 2026 National High School Championship in Chicago, Illinois this past weekend, earning 27th place in a field of 52 teams.
