Senior Center hit by theft

Senior Life Services of Morgan County were hit last week with criminal acts that the agency director says will put their finances in a bind and reduce services to senior citizens of the county.

According to Tammy Kees, director of the Senior Life Services, the Meals on Wheels program truck that was purchased in 2025 to deliver hot and cold meals across the county was vandalized on Sunday, January 25.

Two catalytic converters were stolen from Ford 4×4 truck in the early morning hours of Sunday. Kees said in a statement that repairing the truck will cost more than $3,000.

“This vehicle was purchased to expand our ability to deliver nutritious meals to older adults and individuals who rely on us not just for food, but for daily safety checks and human connection,” Kees said.

She indicated that the truck being out of service may delay meal services to the county’s feeding sites, which include Greenwood School Community Center, Pleasant View Community Center and the Paw Paw Senior Center. Last week, the usual Wednesday lunch at Greenwood was cancelled.

The Morgan County Sheriff’s Department is investigating the theft of the truck parts.

Following on the heels of the truck vandalism, Senior Life Services officials also announced on social media that one of their professional signs had been hit by someone who slid in the snow. They followed up the post saying an individual had come forward and promised to have the sign reinstalled by spring.

Kees asked that anyone with information about the truck vandalism and theft of catalytic converters contact police or the Senior Center at 304-258-3096.
