Over 30 people braved the cold weather on Saturday, January 31 to attend a rally in front of the Morgan County Courthouse in support of law enforcement. Dick Voorhaar said the “Show our Support” event was put together to publicly recognize law enforcement officers and the “tough job they do” here and across the country. The event followed a program including the National Anthem, a speech by Sheriff Johnnie Walter, an invocation by Pastor Joey Giles of Berkeley Baptist Church and a speech by County Commissioner Joel Tuttle. Representatives from five local churches attended the event, said Voorhaar, and several businesses donated gift cards and food for attendees and officers on duty. The message, Voorhaar said, was, “We love our cops; we’re behind you.”
