A Berkeley Springs woman has been charged with drug trafficking after being stopped by Berkeley County Sheriff’s deputies on January 9 along Hedgesville Road near the intersection of I-81.
Crystal A. Burch, 43, was charged with possession of methamphetamine and cocaine with the intent to deliver the drugs.
According to Berkeley County Sheriff Rob Blair, officers saw a vehicle near the Martinsburg Rutters being operated in a way that was “consistent with driving under the influence”. Deputy C.S. Merson stopped the vehicle and Deputy Jason Miller also responded to the location.
Police said that Deputy Merson, in making the traffic stop, saw “narcotics paraphernalia in plain view” in the car. After officers removed Burch, the driver, from the car, they located a baggie containing suspected methamphetamine in her coat pocket.
Burch was then detained and a further search of the vehicle revealed two more baggies of suspected meth, a baggie of suspected cocaine, a baggie of suspected marijuana, two controlled substance pills, a digital scale and supplies consistent with drug distribution, said police.
Burch was incarcerated at the Eastern Regional Jail in lieu of a $50,000 bond.
