The Paw Paw Pirates gave their fans plenty to celebrate this week as they defended the Pirate Cove with two impressive home wins, improving their season record to 3-4 and showcasing the kind of momentum that can change the trajectory of a year.
Behind the sizzling play of standout guard Taylor Carder, the Pirates delivered both a thrilling finish and a dominant performance in a span of just three days.
On Monday, January 5, Paw Paw squared off against the Hancock Panthers in what became an exciting, high-energy matchup from start to finish.
The Pirates fed off the home crowd and ultimately posted a 73-69 victory in a game marked by clutch scoring and relentless effort.
Leading the charge was Carder, who exploded for 37 points, continually creating opportunities and hitting big shots whenever the Panthers tried to creep back in. He wasn’t alone in the attack, as the Pirates received key contributions from across the lineup.
RJ Ryan added 12 points, Nathan Dick chipped in 11, Tomy Santos scored 9, Braylen Paul added 5 and Conner Kendall recorded 4 points to help secure the win.
Just two days later, on Wednesday, January 7, the Pirates welcomed another set of Panthers – this time from Harman High School and delivered one of their most dominant outings of the season.
Paw Paw controlled the game from the opening tip, overwhelming Harman on both ends of the floor and cruising to a decisive 72-38 win. Carder once again electrified the Pirate Cove, finishing with 35 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists, nearly outscoring Harman’s entire team on his own. His performance set the tone, but the Pirates showed their depth as well.
Braylen Paul tallied 11 points, RJ Ryan added 9, Nathan Dick pitched in 6, Tomy Santos contributed 5 and Wyatt Henderson added 4 as Paw Paw’s balanced approach allowed them to maintain control throughout the matchup.
With two convincing victories in hand and morale high, the Pirates now look ahead to continuing their homestand. They will host Turkeyfoot Valley Area on January 12 at 7:15 p.m., followed by an afternoon matchup against Tygarts Valley on January 17 at 3:30 p.m.
If this week’s performances are any indication, Paw Paw appears to be a team gaining confidence, chemistry and momentum at the perfect time.
