County resident Dudley Cable will lead a workshop on active listening and non-violent communication on Monday, January 19 and Monday, January 26,. The classes will take place from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, located at 180 S. Washington Street. The program is free and open to the pubic.
“We live in a time when differences of opinion too often harden into divisions of identity. The speed of information, the structure of social media, and the erosion of shared trust have made disagreement feel dangerous and true dialogue feel rare. Effective communication in a polarized world means learning to hold complexity without retreating into certainty, listening that is generous, and truth-telling that is compassionate and rooted in shared values rather than perfect agreement,” said Laura Smith, Warden of St. Mark’s Vestry.
Cable will provide tools to help participants manage strong emotions, practice empathy and engage in dialogue that builds understanding rather than division. He is a retired Morgan County educator, with 20 years of experience as an assistant principal and principal, and has taught courses on constructive communication at the Eastern Panhandle Empowerment Center.
