Police chase leads to local man’s arrest

Morgan County Sheriff’s Department has charged a Berkeley Springs man with multiple offenses, following a pursuit through the woods on Monday, December 22.

According to a criminal complaint filed in Morgan County Magistrate Court by Deputy Ryan Diehl, police were dispatched to a residence on Pious Ridge Road for a verbal domestic disturbance around 6 p.m.

The suspect, identified as Bradley D. McCarty, 29, was on home confinement at the time.

Prior to the arrival of law enforcement, McCarty fled the residence on foot, running into the woods to hide, according to the criminal complaint.

Not to be outdone, Deputy Diehl followed in pursuit, detaining McCarty in the woods behind Alpine Church.

Once in custody, McCarty continued head-butting and kicking the windows of the police cruiser, according to the criminal complaint.

McCarty was determined to have a blood alcohol level of .17. Alcohol is not allowed on home confinement.

McCarty was arrested and charged with obstructing an officer, home confinement violation, attempted destruction of property, and fleeting on foot.

He is incarcerated at Eastern Regional Jail on a $1,500 bond.
