Big dead tree removed on Green Street

by Kate Lehman

On Tuesday, December 16, Truax Tree Services removed a large, aging maple tree on Green Street that had been recently deemed a public hazard by the Tree Board and Town Council.

The tree had been dropping large limbs onto the sidewalk and street, posing significant risks to pedestrians and vehicles alike.

The removal process presented several challenges due to the tree’s size, age, a thick coating of ivy and other vines encasing much of the trunk and power lines. Truax Tree Services completed the job in nearly nine hours, ensuring the sidewalk and street were thoroughly cleaned up post-operation.

Equipped with specialized skills and equipment, Truax Tree Services executed the removal without causing collateral damage, including downed power lines or falling limbs that could endanger nearby roofs, pedestrians, or vehicles. A large crane was utilized to secure each section of the tree before cutting, allowing for a careful and controlled operation as each segment was moved to a trailer for disposal.

Residents and passersby were captivated by the precision of the crane and bucket truck as they coordinated their movements during the removal.
