Traffic stop yields three arrests on drug charges

Morgan County Sheriff’s Department has charged three people with drug offenses following a traffic stop in the area of Charlotte’s Café on Sunday, November 9 at about 9:30 p.m.

During routine road patrol, police initiated a traffic stop upon observing a silver pickup truck with an expired registration traveling North on South Washington Street.

The driver of the pickup, identified as Amanda J. Myers, 43, of Berkeley Springs, consented to a search, during which a clear bag of suspected fentanyl and a white rock of crack were found in her jacket pocket, according to a criminal complaint filed in Morgan County Magistrate Court by Deputy B. Barker.

Myers was arrested and charged with two counts of possession of a controlled substance. She was released from jail on a $3,000 bond as she awaits a hearing.

Just prior to Myers’ arrest, she was at a residence at 520 S. Washington Street occupied by Sherri E. Davis, 35, and her boyfriend, Vernon W. Paden Jr., 43.

A search of Myers’ phone, which was shared by her husband and Davis, revealed texts about drug sales and purchases from October 1 to the present, according to the criminal complaint.

Police executed a search warrant of the residence on S. Washington Street on Monday, November 10.

Inside, they found Davis, Paden, Myers’ husband and his 8-year-old child.

Ten capsules of suspected fentanyl and heroin, 14 grams of suspected crack, a bag of Kalonopin pills, two small bags of marijuana, along with scales and plastic bags were confiscated from the apartment.

Davis admitted to selling illegal narcotics, describing how much they sell, and from whom they buy it, according to the criminal complaint.

Paden claimed Davis had no involvement, it was all him. He admitted to buying a little to make ends meet, but wanted to say no more to protect his family.

Davis and Paden were arrested by warrant on Monday, November 24. They were both charged with conspiracy, and possession of controlled substances with intent to distribute.

Davis bailed out of jail on a $75,000 bond. According to the bond agreement, Davis has moved to Ranson, where she is awaiting a hearing.

Paden remains incarcerated at Eastern Regional Jail on a $10,000 bond awaiting his hearing.
