Berkeley Springs falls to Lewis County on Halloween night, drops to 2–7

by Jamie Harris

Under the crisp autumn skies of Morgan County, the Berkeley Springs Indians suffered their sixth consecutive defeat, falling 33–7 to the Lewis County Minutemen on a festive Halloween night at the Morgan Field. The loss drops the Indians to 2–7 on the season, a stark contrast to their promising 2–1 start.

For Lewis County, the win marked their first of the 2025 campaign, as the Class AAA Minutemen leaned heavily on a punishing ground game to overpower the Tribe. The first quarter was a defensive battle, with both teams locked in a scoreless stalemate.

Momentum shifted in the second quarter when Lewis County broke through with two rushing touchdowns, taking a 13–0 lead. Berkeley Springs responded with a creative play: backup quarterback Saul Williams tossed a backward screen to Kyle Moore, who then launched a 33-yard strike to Adam Rippeon for the Indians’ lone touchdown. Jacob Morgan’s extra point was good, cutting the deficit to 13–7 at halftime.

The second half belonged entirely to the Minutemen. Lewis County added two more rushing scores in the third quarter, extending their lead to 26–7.

The fourth quarter saw their fifth rushing touchdown of the night, sealing the 33–7 final.

Lewis County racked up an impressive 316 rushing yards against a struggling Indians defense. No offensive or defensive stats were reported for Berkeley Springs.

The Indians will look to end their season on a high note when they host the Moorefield Yellow Jackets Friday, November 7 at 7 p.m. on Morgan Field. The evening will also feature Senior Night festivities, honoring senior members of the football team, cheer squad and band.
