Hampshire silences Morgan Field in homecoming heartbreaker

        by Jamie Harris

The festive atmosphere at Morgan Field on Friday night, October 17. was electric, with the stands packed and the field adorned in blue and gold for Berkeley Springs High School’s annual homecoming celebration. Seniors Landon Litten and Lilli Stevens were crowned the 2025 Homecoming King and Queen in a pregame ceremony that brought smiles and cheers from the crowd.

Unfortunately for the Berkeley Springs Indians, the joy of homecoming didn’t carry over onto the gridiron.

The visiting Hampshire Trojans came out firing on all cylinders, racing to a 33-14 halftime lead and never looking back. Despite a late rally, the Indians fell 46-28, dropping to 2-5 on the season.

Hampshire’s defense proved to be a difference-maker, capitalizing on Berkeley Springs turnovers with two pick-six interceptions that swung momentum early. The Trojans added two more scores in the second half before the Indians responded with a pair of touchdowns to close the gap.

Quarterback Jalen Miller led the Tribe’s offensive effort, rushing for 41 yards and a touchdown while completing 23 of 38 passes for 243 yards and two scores. Kyle Moore showcased his reliable hands with 123 receiving yards, while Jake Aulabaugh added 98 yards and a touchdown on eight receptions. Steven Schmidt also contributed with two catches for 43 yards and a touchdown.

On defense, the Indians were paced by Kyle Moore, who recorded a team-high nine solo tackles. Senior Jackson Ambrose and junior Matt Wolfe each tallied eight and seven tackles respectively, with Wolfe adding two tackles for loss. Brian Ailor, Steven Schmidt, and Jackson Ambrose also chipped in with key stops behind the line of scrimmage.

Next up, the Indians hit the road for a long trip to southern West Virginia to face the Shady Spring Tigers (2-6). With both teams looking to rebound, Friday’s matchup could be a pivotal turning point in the season.
