Indians show heart in road battle against Petersburg

by Jamie Harris

The Berkeley Springs Indians soccer team hit the road last Thursday, October 9, for a long trek to face the Petersburg Vikings in a competitive matchup that tested their grit and determination. Despite falling 6-2, the Tribe put up a spirited fight and showed flashes of strong teamwork and individual effort.

Senior Jacob Morgan and junior Kyle Bland led the scoring for the Indians. Morgan assisted Bland on his goal, highlighting the duo’s chemistry on the field. Bland was a force on offense, recording an impressive eight shots on goal (SOG), while Morgan added two SOG of his own. Malcolm Johns also contributed with a shot on goal.

In goal, Frank Kucharski played 45 minutes, making 10 saves (GS) and allowing five goals. Junior Wesley Kutkat-Tonkin took over for the final 35 minutes, adding eight saves and conceding just one goal. Defensive efforts were bolstered by Rylee Sauter and Andrew Bland, each contributing a goal save to help slow the Vikings’ attack.

While the scoreboard didn’t favor the Indians, the team’s resilience and hustle were evident throughout the match.

Next up, Berkeley Springs hosted the Moorefield Yellow Jackets on Monday, October 13, for their final home game of the season. The evening included a Senior Night celebration at Morgan Field following the Lady Indians’ match against Moorefield.
