The Berkeley Springs Lady Indians soccer team continues to impress this season, improving their record to 8-3 after a challenging road loss to Class AAAA Musselman and a commanding win over Southern Fulton, Pa.
Thursday, September 25 – Musselman 6, Berkeley Springs 1
The Lady Indians traveled to Inwood, to face the formidable Musselman Applemen on their Senior Night. Despite the final score, Berkeley Springs showed grit and determination throughout the match.
Willow Rhoten led the defensive effort with 23 saves, supported by Emilee Fleece and Avi Ambrose, who stepped up to back their keeper with additional saves. On offense, Albani Cirigliano fired off five shots on goal, while Lilli Stevens and Reese Souders each added one.
The first half saw the Lady Indians keeping Musselman on their toes, disrupting their rhythm and challenging their attempts to take control. At halftime, Musselman held a narrow 3-1 lead, but a second-half surge sealed the win for the Applemen.
Saturday, September 27 – Berkeley Springs 6, Southern Fulton 2
Back on the road, the Lady Indians bounced back with a dominant performance against Southern Fulton. The team showcased their depth and adaptability, experimenting with new formations and player roles to strengthen team chemistry.
Avi Ambrose celebrated her first high school goal with a confident penalty kick, while Albani Cirigliano scored with an assist from Ambrose. Additional goals came from Taylor Andrews (assisted by Abigail Close), Reese Souders and Circe Powell.
In goal, Willow Rhoten recorded 17 saves and Payton Swink added two saves, continuing the team’s strong defensive tradition.
The Lady Indians peppered Southern Fulton with shots: Cirigliano (4), Souders (5), Powell (4), Close (2), Andrews (2), Stevens (1), Forney (1), Henry (1) and Cowles (1).
After conceding two quick goals early in the second half, Berkeley Springs regrouped and finished the match with two more goals, sealing the win.
The Lady Indians returned home to Morgan Field Tuesday, September 30, where they hosted the Hampshire Trojans.
