Grand Jury indicts 14 in September term, including Maryland man who shot deputy

The Morgan County Grand Jury has indicted 14 individuals on felony criminal charges in their September term after meeting in Morgan County Circuit Court on Wednesday, September 17.

Among those indicted is the man accused of shooting a Morgan County Sheriff’s deputy in late July of this year.

Melvin E. Gallion, 39, of Flintstone, Md. was indicted on two counts of first-degree attempted murder, malicious assault of a law enforcement officer, malicious assault, burglary, four counts of wanton endangerment with a firearm, child neglect creating a risk of death or serious bodily injury, being a felon in possession of a firearm, assault during the commission of a felony, use of a firearm during the commission of a felony, two counts of the malicious killing of an animal and two counts of destruction of property.

Gallion is accused of breaking into the Berkeley Springs residence of a former partner, shooting two dogs to death while children were present and shooting at two police officers who responded to the break-in call at the residence. Gallion was previously convicted of a felony charge in Maryland and is ineligible to own firearms.

Christopher A. Burnett, 32, of Hedgesville was indicted on two counts of fraudulent schemes.

Charles J. Calzada, 28, of Ranson was indicted for burglary, strangulation, domestic battery third offense, battery of an unborn victim and destruction of property.

Thomas A. Davis, 41, of Berkeley Springs was indicted on two counts of failure to update his sex offender registry with the West Virginia State Police, second offense.

Daniel A. Feigley, 25, of Fallings Waters was indicted for burglary, domestic battery and destruction of property.

Dalton M. Ginevan, 20, of Paw Paw was indicted for third-degree arson.

Nicholas C. Hess, 34, was indicted for kidnapping, strangulation, domestic battery and brandishing a deadly weapon.

Lisa N. Kent, 37, of Keedysville, Md. was indicted for harassment.

Terry J. Moore, 62, was indicted for identity theft and two counts of forgery.

Richard S. Payne, 62, of Berkeley Springs was indicted for fraudulent schemes.

Krystal A. Smith, 40, of Berkeley Springs was indicted on two counts of driving while her license was revoked for DUI, third offense. She was also indicted for having fraudulent registration, no insurance and for driving under the influence of alcohol.

Daniel S. Spielman, 20, of Hedgesville was indicted for first-degree robbery, attempted first-degree robbery and two counts of wanton endangerment involving a firearm.

Jenny Strickland, 48, of Great Cacapon was indicted for financial exploitation of an elderly person.

Johnnie R. Sturms, 47, of Hedgesville was indicted for burglary, interfering with emergency communications, domestic battery second offense, destruction of property, fleeing on foot and obstructing a law enforcement officer.
