Paw Paw Pirates open season at Interstate Classic

by Jamie Harris

The Paw Paw Pirates cross country team kicked off their 2025 season on Saturday, September 6, at the Interstate Classic in Clear Spring, Md. It was the first chance for the young squad to test themselves against a strong field of competition and the Pirates turned in some solid performances.

Senior Taylor Carder led the way for Paw Paw, finishing in 36th place overall with a time of 21:53.1. Just a few seconds behind was sophomore Braylen Paul, who crossed the line in 21:56.1, good for 37th place. Sophomore Jennings Carder also ran a strong race, finishing in 49th place with a time of 24:12.9.

With two underclassmen already contributing varsity times, the Pirates are showing signs of promise for the future. Head coach and teammates alike praised the effort and determination the runners showed in their season debut.

The Pirates will look to build on this experience as they continue their season in the coming weeks, with eyes on improvement and growth as the fall progresses.
