Vikings run wild, hand Indians a 55-13 loss

by Jamie Harris

The return of the Boys of Fall under the Friday night lights didn’t go as planned for the Berkeley Springs Indians, who took the long road trip into Grant County this past Friday, August 29, to face off against the Class A Petersburg Vikings.

From the opening kickoff, Petersburg exploited the Indians’ defense and wasted no time in taking control of the game. The Vikings roared out to a commanding lead, piling up multiple touchdowns in both the first and second quarters. Berkeley Springs struggled to find its rhythm on either side of the ball as Petersburg built an insurmountable advantage.

The Indians managed to get on the scoreboard late in the contest, showing some fight in the closing minutes, but the damage had already been done. When the final whistle blew, it was Petersburg celebrating a dominant 55-13 victory in the season opener.

No individual statistics were available at press time.

With the loss, Berkeley Springs drops to 0-1 on the season. The Indians will look to regroup quickly as they prepare for their home opener on Friday, September 5. They’ll welcome their Potomac River neighbor, the

Hancock Panthers, to the Morgan Field for the annual “Battle of the Potomac River.” Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
