The Berkeley Springs Indians boys’ soccer team hit the road to Hampshire County earlier this week, where they pushed the Class AAA Trojans to the limit before falling 2–0. The Tribe’s relentless effort and defensive intensity kept Hampshire off the scoreboard until the final 18 minutes of play, when the Trojans finally broke through.
The story of the night was goalkeeper Frank Kucharski, who was nothing short of spectacular in the net. He racked up 27 saves in 80 minutes, allowing just two late goals in a performance that had the entire crowd in awe. On the attack, Jacob Morgan, Kyle Bland and Malcolm Johns each registered a shot on goal, while Rylee Sauter made a critical goal-line clearance to support his keeper.
The fight shown at Hampshire carried into Thursday, August 28, when the Indians hosted the Hedgesville Eagles at Morgan Field. Unfortunately, the evening turned rough as the Eagles controlled the match and enforced the 10-goal mercy rule with 3:33 left to play.

The contest was a physical battle that left the Indians battered. Stat lines were limited, but Jacob Morgan registered one shot on goal. Between the posts, Kucharski had 10 saves but allowed six goals in 44 minutes before leaving the match with a concussion.
Kyle Bland stepped into the net and recorded seven saves with two goals allowed in 28 minutes before being sidelined with a knee injury. In a true team effort, Rylee Sauter added six saves from his defender position, and Connor Havermale chipped in with a save while facing two goals against in five minutes of action.

Despite the tough loss and the physical toll of the match, the Indians showed determination to keep fighting, even as injuries piled up. Their toughness and heart were on display, even against overwhelming odds.
The Tribe (0-3) will look to regroup and recover as they continue their season, determined to channel their resilience into the next challenge. On Monday, September 2 the Indians will host the Moorefield Yellow Jackets at 7 p.m., on Thursday, September 4 the Indians will hit the road for a contest at Frankfort at 6 p.m., and then on Saturday, September 6 the Tribe will host Notre Dame at 12 p.m.
