Berkeley Springs Cross Country gears up for 2025 Season

by Jamie Harris

Berkeley Springs High School’s cross country program is ready to hit the trails this fall with high hopes and strong determination. Under the guidance of Coach Vickie Miller, in her first year as head coach but with eight years of overall cross country experience, the Indians are aiming to build on their strengths and chase ambitious goals.

Coach Miller is focused on helping her runners maximize their potential. “My overall expectations and goals for the team are to build on their strong points already in place and help them achieve their goals this season,” she said.

The boys’ team returns a core group of six strong runners: seniors and team captains Josh Walls and Liam Stewart, along with Jay Nazelrod, Haven Ailor, Dustun Smith and Jake Risinger. If these athletes give their all, Coach Miller believes the boys have a solid shot at scoring well at Regionals and potentially sending a few runners to States.

“If these six work together, I’m hoping they can make it to States,” Miller said, praising the leadership of Walls and Stewart.

For the girls’ team, it’s a season of growth and learning. Sophomore standout Bella Shoemaker is leading the way, determined to improve her times and earn another trip to States. Miller is encouraged by the girls’ hard work and dedication.

The Indians’ off-season was impressive, with 7 to 9 runners showing up daily for conditioning even in extreme temperatures. Their dedication has not only strengthened the team but also set a strong example for the middle school program. “The team has impressed me with their willingness to push hard to achieve their goals and to show the Middle School team what teamwork and hard work can achieve,” Miller said.

With strong leadership, motivated runners, and a culture of hard work, the 2025 Berkeley Springs Indians cross country teams are poised for an exciting season. Fans can look forward to fast times, spirited competition, and plenty of Indian pride on every course this fall.
