A tractor-trailer’s encounter with a guardrail along the narrow portion of Cacapon Road at the top of Cacapon Mountain stopped traffic to and from Great Cacapon on Monday for several hours.
A tractor-trailer carrying explosive material became stuck on a guardrail in the 3300 block of Cacapon Road west of the Panorama Overlook, said Morgan County Sheriff Johnnie Walter shortly after 2 p.m. on August 18.
Because of the explosive nature of the cargo, responders were planning to unload its cargo before trying to cut the guardrail out from under the trailer. In the end, Omps Garage towed the truck off the mountain without unloading the TNT cargo.
Photos show the guardrail twisted and pulled under the end of the trailer. The tractor-trailer stayed upright and in the westbound lane of Cacapon Road.
The truck belongs to Tri-State Motor Transit, a company headquartered in Glendale, Arizona that specializes in transport of hazardous and sensitive materials.
Cacapon Road was closed in both directions at 2:30 p.m. and reopened around 6:50 p.m. on Monday. Residents in the western part of the county had to use lengthy detours to get home and to work.
