Morgan County Parks and Recreation hosted its 11th annual back-to-school bash at Warm Springs Intermediate School on Friday, August 8.
Local K-12 students registered at the door for free school supplies, based on their grade. Hundreds of families visited the event to prepare for the opening of school next Tuesday in Morgan County.
Some waited for free haircuts. One mother with six children said that service was a lifesaver.
Volunteers inside handed out bookbags, binders, pads of paper, pencils, markers, scissors, and other supplies.
Students and their families waited in line patiently, greeting each other hesitantly after a long summer break.
The highly anticipated community event is fully funded by grants and donations, including a $2,000 donation from the Morgan County Commission approved last week. Organizer Dawn Beal said donations were down $600 versus this time last year.
Anyone still in need of school supplies can call Beal at 301-331-8400 any time during the school year.
