Two fugitives who were wanted on multiple felony charges were possibly armed and barricaded in an abandoned house during an eight-hour standoff with law enforcement.

Morgan County Sheriff’s Deputy Brad Knotts and Deputy Ryan Diehl responded to the call. Deputy Chris Roper, Deputy Luke Shambaugh, and Deputy Brandon Barker responded to assist.

The deputies remained diligent, persistent and refused to leave, until all options were exhausted in locating both fugitives.

Deputy Ryan Diehl placed himself in great danger when he removed his duty equipment, allowing him to maneuver through a very small space, where he encountered the fugitives hiding in the attic.

Both fugitives were successfully placed under arrest without injury to the deputies.

Deputy Diehl was awarded a Meritorious Service Award for his courage and bravery.

Deputy Brad Knotts, Deputy Luke Shambaugh, and Deputy Chris Roper were each awarded Letters of Commendation.

“All deputies on scene showed outstanding determination, resolve and fortitude in making sure these fugitives were taken into custody,” said Chief Widmeyer.
