The Berkeley Springs–Morgan County Chamber of Commerce has announced the winners of the 50th Annual Apple Butter Festival Logo Contest, sponsored by SC Studios.
With more than 40 designs submitted from across West Virginia and around the world, and over 1,000 public votes cast, the contest captured the spirit of this incredible event.
The top five entries were selected by a panel of professional artists, then the winners were chosen entirely by community vote. This year’s contest was especially competitive, with the top two designs trading places repeatedly, and only 25 votes ultimately separating first and second place.
The Top 5 Winners are:
- #5 – Apple Butter Festival Quilt by Payton Brown (Berkeley Springs)
- #4 – Apple Butter Jar by Randi Vaughan (Charleston, WV)
- #3 – 50th Tree by Payton Brown (Berkeley Springs) with two designs in the top five
- #2 – Apple Butter Stamp by Rebecca Starliper (Berkeley Springs)
A very unique design from the reigning 2024 winner, and a top contender again. This logo was so popular the Chamber is exploring ways to incorporate the design into this year’s celebration as well.
- #1 – Heart of Harvest by Casey Berry (Berkeley Springs)
As the contest’s winner, this logo will be featured on festival posters, t-shirts, banners, cups, merchandise, and all things Apple Butter in 2025.
“We were thrilled by the talent, creativity, and community support behind this contest,” said Happy Rone, Executive Director of the Chamber. “To have over 1,000 votes for artwork that celebrates the festival’s 50th year is incredibly meaningful. We’re also very proud that all five top entries came from right here in West Virginia, proof once again of the talent that is found in our local and regional artists.”
The top three winners will receive cash prizes, made possible by generous sponsorship from SC Studios.
The 50th Annual Apple Butter Festival takes place October 11 & 12, 2025, with a kickoff party in the WV Beer, Wine & Spirits Garden on October 10.
