On Monday, June 9 at about 9 a.m. Berkeley County Sheriff’s deputies responded to an area of Hedgesville Road to locate a man suspected of armed robbery in Morgan County.
Upon arrival, deputies located Daniel Spielman, 19, of Hedgesville, in a camper and took him into custody without incident.
Spielman had been the focus of an ongoing criminal investigation into an armed robbery that took place in Cherry Run back on February 10.
According to a criminal complaint filed in Morgan County Magistrate Court by Morgan County Sheriff’s Deputy R.W. Diehl, police were dispatched to the 3200 block of Householder Road for a robbery that had just occurred at about 7:45 p.m. that evening near the Maryland Lane boat ramp.
The two victims had accepted a ride from a friend with two unknown men in the vehicle. After walking down to the river, one of the men came back with a shiny silver or grey pistol, aimed it at the victims, and demanded all their money and their phones, according to the criminal complaint.
The victims laid $1,900 cash and an iPhone pro max on the hood, and took off into the woods, lying down until the vehicle sped off toward Cherry Run Road.
The victims then went to the nearest house to call 911.
Spielman was identified as a suspect in this robbery, based on being picked out of a photo ID line up, and statements made during the investigation.
Spielman remains incarcerated at Eastern Regional Jail with a $100,000 cash bond on two charges of armed robbery.
