Plant giveaway & garden events set for May 31

The third annual Community Plant Giveaway will be taking place later this month on Saturday, May 31, from 10 a.m. to noon at 200 Douglas Street in Hancock. If it rains, the event will be moved inside.

There is parking available and those attending will be given a cardboard flat to put their plants in.

Event organizers are asking there be no early birds. The event starts at 10 a.m.

There will be an array of vegetables, herbs, and flowers to choose from.

Stoner’s Florists & Greenhouse, Great Cove Farmers Market, Creek View Farm Market, Glascock’s Produce, Mock’s Greenhouse & Landscaping, Rocky Lea Mulch, Blossom Point Greenhouse, H&M Greenhouse, and the congregation of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints will provide plants.

There will be a new addition this year as the Hancock Veterans Memorial Branch Library will be entertaining children who are attending the event with their families.

Gardening stories will be read, a table with garden coloring pages, free books to take home, and information on the summer reading program.

Master Gardeners from Washington County and the Morgan County CEOS Garden Club will be present to answer gardening questions and hand out information to take home.

Volunteers will also be available to assist in carrying flats if needed.

The congregation of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints hosts the event.

The goal of the event is to bless the community by serving its neighbors while encouraging them to be self-reliant.

The event theme is “Plant gardens, and eat the fruit of them” (Jeremiah 29:5).

If you would like to volunteer for the event or have questions, contact Wendy Weller at JustServeHancock@gmail.com.
