Deputies investigating shooting at rental house party

Morgan County Sheriff’s deputies are investigating a shooting at a party near Coolfont on Sunday, May 4 that resulted in a non-life-threatening wound to a victim’s leg.

Morgan County Sheriff Johnnie Walter said Monday that officers are still interviewing witnesses from the party, some of whom are from Berkeley and Jefferson counties and Winchester, as well as other places in the immediate region.

According to Walter, more than 14 individuals were at the residence on Frog Hollow Lane early Sunday morning when officers arrived in response to a 911 call for a subject being shot.

During initial interviews, deputies learned that the party was being held at a short-term rental home and the gathering had been advertised on SnapChat, with invitations for random people to attend.

According to Sheriff Walter, the victim and the suspected shooter had left the scene prior to law enforcement arriving.

The victim was later located at Winchester Medical Center suffering from a non-life-threatening wound to his lower leg.

No arrest has been made at this time and the case is being actively investigated by Deputy B. S. Barker. Deputy Barker can be reached at bbarker@morgancountywv.gov.
