Lady Indians battle through Spring Break gauntlet

The Berkeley Springs High School Lady Indians softball team powered through a de- manding Spring Break Week with grit, growth and flashes of brilliance across six tough games, finishing the stretch with a 2-4 record.

Here’s how the week unfolded:

Monday, April 14 Battle for the Potomac at Hancock
(W 8–7, 8 innings)

Indian’s player, Payton Mizell gets back to third while Hancock’s Kaydence Gaither goes to tag her.

The Lady Indians opened their week by crossing the Potomac to battle their Maryland rivals the Hancock Panthers in the Battle for the Potomac. After a dramatic eight-inning thriller, Berkeley Springs emerged victorious thanks to a clutch RBI single by Layla Parsell and a game-saving catch from Scotlyn Forney with the bases loaded in the bottom of the seventh.

Wednesday, April 16 Home vs Keyser (L 0–17)

The Lady Indians returned home to face a formidable Keyser squad, who lived up to their reputation with a 17-0 no-hit shutout. Berkeley Springs managed just three baserunners: Layla Parsell and Isabella Albanese (walks) and Alaira Harrington (hit by pitch).

Offensive Notes: No hits recorded; Parsell, Albanese (BB), Harrington (HBP).

Thursday, April 17 at St. James (L 0–13)

Mistakes plagued the Indians in Hagerstown, where eight errors opened the floodgates for the host St. James Saints. Freshman Molly Boyles broke up the no-hitter with a single, but the Indians couldn’ t recover from the early defensive miscues.

Offensive Notes: Molly Boyles: 1 single.

Friday, April 18
at East Hardy (W 6–1)

Back in West Virginia, the Lady Indians bounced back strong against East Hardy. Solid defense, sharp pitching, and timely hitting sealed the sweep over the Cougars. Harrington was dominant on the mound and Berkeley’ s bats struck early and often.

Saturday, April 19 Hancock Bunny Blast Tournament Kemps Mill Park, Williamsport, Md.

Game 1
vs Northern Garrett (L 0–11)

The Huskies no-hit the Lady Indians in a shutout win. Berkeley Springs showed patience at the plate with three walks but couldn’t get the bats going.

Offensive Notes: Scotlyn Forney, Layla Parsell, Hailey Adkins: 1 walk each.

Game 2
vs Boonsboro (L 0–19)

In their second game of the day, the Lady Indians faced a powerhouse Boonsboro team. Despite the lopsided score, Berkeley found some spark at the plate.

Player Highlights: Scotlyn Forney: 1 single; Alaira Harrington: 1 single and Hailey Adkins: 1 walk.

Upcoming Games

April 21 played at home against Allegany, 6 p.m.; April 23 at Frankfort, 6 p.m.; April 24 at home against Hedgesville, 7 p.m.; April 25 at home against McConnells- burg, 6 p.m.; April 26 at home against Southern Fulton, 2 p.m.

Though the win-loss column may not fully reflect their tenacity, the Lady Indians are continuing to build chemistry and gain valuable experience as they push through the back half of the season with a record of 5-13.
