by Jamie Harris

The Berkeley Springs High School tennis teams traveled to Petersburg High School on Tuesday, April 15, for a hard- fought match against the Vikings. The boys’ squad came away with an impressive 5-2 team victory, while the Lady Indians fell just short in a 4-2 loss.

The Indians were led by a standout performance from #1 singles player Braden Brinegar, who edged out a tough opponent in an 8-6 battle. Landon Litten added to the win column at #3 singles with a solid 8-3 showing, while Brody Beal clinched a thrilling 8-7 tiebreaker win at #4 singles before the match was called early due to lightning.

In doubles action, the #2 team of Connor Havermale and Litten displayed great chemistry in their 8-3 win, and the #3 doubles team of brothers Kyle and Andrew Bland powered through with an 8-5 victory, securing the team win for the Indians.

On the girls’ side, Emilee Fleece continued her strong season with an 8-5 win at #1 singles, and Jade Miller added another point for the Lady Indians with an 8-4 win at #3 singles. Despite their efforts, the Lady Indians came up short, 4-2, against a competitive Lady Vikings squad. On Wednesday, April 16, both Berkeley Springs teams returned to action at the Potomac V alley Conference (PVC) Tennis Championships held in Keyser. While the Indians and Lady Indians competed hard throughout the day, the tournament concluded without any individual or doubles titles for Berkeley Springs. The Indians and Lady Indians will look to bounce back and continue building momentum as they head into the final stretch of their spring season.
