Indians snap losing streak with commanding win over Oak Glen

The Berkeley Springs Indians faced a tough matchup against the Hancock Panthers on Monday afternoon, resulting in a 7-2 loss at home.

Pitcher Kyle Rankin was on the mound for the Indians, with Jalen Miller ready at third base.

Hancock surged ahead early, securing a 5-0 lead before Berkeley Springs managed to put a run on the board in the bottom of the fifth inning. Despite efforts to close the gap, Hancock continued to dominate, adding insurance runs in both the sixth and seventh innings, ultimately sealing their victory and completing the season sweep over Berkeley Springs.

The Indians showcased resilience throughout the game, with standout performances from several key players. Jaxon McClintock led the offensive charge with a pivotal double and contributed a run, while Kyle Rankin added a single, scored a run, and drove in a crucial RBI. Conner Maconaughey also made an impact with a single and an RBI.

The Berkeley Springs Indians varsity baseball team finally broke through in a big way on Saturday, April 12, putting an emphatic end to a 14-game losing streak with a dominating 12-2 victory over the Oak Glen Golden Bears in the second game of a doubleheader.

After a tough 13-3 loss the night before at Weir, the Indians entered Saturday’s matchup hungry for redemption. Game one saw glimpses of fight from the Tribe as they rallied to tie the game 4-4 midway through, but Oak Glen pulled away late to secure an 11-4 win.

Despite the loss in game one, Berkeley Springs had bright spots at the plate. Jaxon McClintock delivered a double and two RBIs, while Kyle Moore chipped in with a single and a run scored. Kaden Henry and Liam Coffman also added key hits and RBIs to keep the Indians in contention early.

But it was in game two that the Indians flipped the script. Coming out swinging, Berkeley Springs exploded for seven runs in the first two innings, setting the tone with an offensive onslaught that Oak Glen couldn’t counter. By the end of the game, the Indians tallied 11 hits and 12 runs, cruising to a muchneeded win and a chance to reset their season.

On the mound, sophomore Kyle Moore delivered a masterful complete-game performance, scattering five hits and striking out 10 batters to earn the win and secure the Tribe’ s first victory of the season.

Now sitting at 1-14, the Indians are looking to build on their momentum with three upcoming road games: Tuesday, April 15 at Spring Mills, 2:30 p.m.; Wednesday, April 16 at Frankfort, 7 p.m. and Thursday, April 17 at Saint James, 4:30 p.m.
