The Paw Paw Pirates track and field teams delivered a strong showing in the East Hardy Invitational held in Baker, this past Thursday, April 3 with athletes across both boys’ and girls’ divisions setting personal records and clinching top finishes.
Shayla Tanouye put on a stellar all-around perform- ance, claiming victories in three events. She soared to first place in the high jump (4-08.00), dominated the 100m hurdles with a time of 17.36a and led the 300m hur- dles with a personal-best 46.32a. She also showed her versatility by securing first in the long jump (15-06.75).
Pricilla Corbin impressed in both sprints and jumps. She won the 400 meters with a time of 1:07.12a (PR) and placed fifth in the 200 meters (29.43a, PR). She also took second in the long jump (13- 05.00) and sixth in the high jump (4-00.00).

In field events, Joselyn Smith led the girls’ team with a first-place finish in the dis- cus (89-00) and a strong third-place showing in the shot put (28-03.00). Myley Mullins was close behind, taking second in shot put (28- 04.50).
Donovan Tanouye led the boys’ side with dominant per- formances in the distance events. He took first in the 800 meters (2:17.23a) and first in the 1600 meters with a personal-best 4:39.38.
RJ Ryan competed in several sprint events, posting a 13.56a in the 100 meters, 27.14a in the 200 meters, and 1:02.21a in the 400 meters, all marked as season records.
In the discus, Tommy Santos led the way for Paw Paw with a fourth-place finish and a personal-best throw of 96- 00. Teammate Nathan Dick was right behind with 90-04, and Corey Smith rounded out the top throws with 80- 10.
Paw Paw’ s boys also showed solid performances in the shot put, with Dick (32-11.00) and Smith (32- 08.00) taking fifth and sixth, respectively. Santos and Tristian Tharp both recorded personal records of 28-06.00 and 28-02.00.
Sophia Ross and Sarah Thorne set personal records in the discus, throwing 59-09 and 42-07, respectively. Conner Kendall recorded personal bests in both discus (70-07.50) and shot put (24- 05.00).
In the long jump, Jennings Carder and RJ Ryan placed 10th and 12th, with Carder jumping 14-06.50 and Ryan 14-02.00, the latter marked as a season record.
