Hazel Akers Clevenger

1924-2025

Hazel Akers Clevenger, 100, of Needmore, Pa., passed away peacefully on March 15, 2025 at Transitions Shook Home in Chambersburg, Pa.

Born on May 6, 1924, in Needmore, Pa., she was the daughter of the late F.E. Palmer and Mary (DeShong) Palmer.

Hazel was the widow of Boyd C. Clevenger, who she married on May 10, 1971. He preceded her in death on September 23, 2015.

She is survived by her daughter Ruth Ann (wife of Timothy) Close of Berkeley Springs, W.Va., her granddaughter Melette (wife of Chris) Patterson, of Chambersburg, Pa., who lovingly cared for her over the last nine years, and her grandson Aaron (husband of Jessica) Close, of Berkeley Springs. She also leaves behind great-grandchildren Krista (wife of Dylan) Shives, Damon (husband of Callie) Gordon, Abigail, Caroline, Stella and Nathan Close, as well as great-great-grandchildren Lincoln and Stetson Shives and Dax Gordon.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her son Roger Akers and daughter Christine Akers. Hazel spent most of her life on the Palmer family farm.

She worked at G.C. Murphy in McConnellsburg, Pa.

She was an active member of the Needmore Fire Company Auxiliary in her earlier years.

A celebration of Hazel’s life will be held on Saturday, March 29, 2025 at 11 a.m. at Cedar Grove Church, Dot, Pa. with Reverend Timothy Close officiating. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. Her memory will be forever cherished by those who knew and loved her.
