Make It Shine clean-ups begin in April

by Trish Rudder

Getting ready for spring, the annual Make It Shine clean-up events in the Town of Bath and in Greenway Cemetery begin on Saturday, April 5 with a rain date of Saturday, April 12. The time is 9 a.m.-12 noon on both dates.

The event is sponsored by the Town of Bath, which can be reached at 304-258-1102.

Bath Councilwoman Elizabeth Skinner, who heads up Greenway Cemetery, said at the March 5 meeting that posters will go up announcing this event.

Trash bags and gloves will be supplied at the Town of Bath Municipal Building at 271 North Wilkes Street and at Greenway Cemetery.

Clean up on the rail trail

Councilwoman Rebecca MacLeod said an earlier litter clean-up will be held on Wednesday, April 2 with a rain date on Wednesday, April 9 on Jimstown Road and in the Warm Springs Run. The time is 9 a.m.-12 noon on both dates.

The Warm Springs Watershed Association (WSWA) and Friends of the North Berkeley Rail

Trail (NBRT) are partnering to clean up the stream and the banks of Warm Springs Run at Jimstown Road said Councilman Dave O’Connell in an email. He also heads up Friends of the North Berkeley Rail Trail.

Volunteers will meet at 9 a.m., in the parking lot on both dates on the east side of Jimstown Road, just past the intersection with U.S. Route 522 and walk south on the trail.

The events are sponsored by the WV Department of Environmental Protection for the litter cleanup. The WVDEP will provide bags, grabbers and gloves and volunteers who want to clean up the trail should wear sturdy footwear.

Volunteers who want to work in the stream should wear waders or waterproof footwear.

Many people bring a rake to pull out trash in hard-to-reach places, O’Connell said.
