Counterfeiting suspect arrested as fugitive

On Sunday, February 9 around 8:30 p.m., Deputy B. K. Knotts of the Morgan County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to 25 Union Street — the 7-11 convenience store — for a report of fraud/counterfeit money.

Upon arrival, Deputy Knotts made contact with a male who police said identified himself as Mr. Zabihullah Enayatulla.

Deputy Knotts later reported that he discovered the man had lied about his identity, and he was actually Khaled Khaleeq, age 27.

Khaleeq, a non-citizen on a work visa, was a fugitive from Will County, Illinois, wanted on felony warrants for burglary and forgery. Police said Khaleeq was wanted with nationwide extradition, having a lengthy criminal history of fraud.

Officers said Khaleeq has been tied to at least one other case involving counterfeit currency in Morgan County, and charges will be forthcoming. The investigation is still ongoing.

Khaleeq was arrested as a fugitive from justice, as well as charges of obstructing an officer and possession of counterfeit money with intent to utter. He is currently being held in ERJ on a $25,000 bond.
