The Morgan County School Board recognized Warm Springs Intermediate School teachers Shanahan Elmore and Marianna Ruggiero at their February 4 meeting for their accomplishment of becoming National Board Certified Teachers.

School board vice-president Laura Smith said board officials have always tried to encourage teachers to pursue the certification. It’s a great thrill to have two new teachers achieve it. It’s the most respected certification for k-12 teachers and was created by teachers for teachers.
Elmore and Ruggiero said that they had to continually evaluate themselves and explain everything they were doing as part of the certification process.
Superintendent David Banks said achieving the National Board Certification is a very difficult task that requires great perseverance. It’s also very time consuming.
Elmore is a third-grade teacher at Warm Springs Intermediate School and is a former Morgan County Teacher of the Year.
Ruggiero is the Intermediate School’s art teacher and has attained a multitude of grants to support her innovative art projects with students and community organizations.
