Bosben-Grayson pleads guilty to 2023 murder of Morgan County man

A Maryland man has pled guilty to murdering Geoffrey Reed in his southern Morgan County home in March of 2023.

Ian Patrick Bosben-Grayson entered the guilty plea in Morgan County Circuit Court on Friday, January 31 during a hearing just days before his trial for the murder was to begin.

Bosben-Grayson pled guilty to first degree murder, grand larceny and fraud in connection with an access device as part of a plea agreement that will involve a recommendation of mercy for his sentencing.

Bosben-Grayson will be sentenced on March 3 in the case.

Lt. Seth Place of the Morgan County Sheriff’s Department was the investigator in the case.

Police were called to the home of Reed on March 10, 2023 for a welfare check after his girlfriend reported she had not heard from him. Officers found Reed, 75, deceased as a result of severe blunt force trauma, and investigators described the murder scene as gruesome, with evidence of extensive violence.

Investigators found that Bosben-Grayson left Reed’s home in the victim’s vehicle. He also attempted to use Reed’s bank or credit card to make a purchase following the murder.

Officers from Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department arrested Bosben-Grayson in Charles Town on March 14 after U.S. Marshals detected the license plate of the murder victim’s vehicle in the vicinity.

During the investigation, police found that Bosben-Grayson, who resided in Randallstown, Md., knew Reed from a church mentorship program that both were part of when the accused was a teenager.

During the March 3 sentencing hearing, Reed’s family will have an opportunity to speak to the court before Bosben-Grayson is sentenced for his murder.
